Lumens aint necessarily Lumens!

on Monday, 05 February 2018. Posted in Blog

The brightness you buy may not be the brightness you receive!

Lumens aint necessarily Lumens!

So, you’re wanting to buy a mini projector? What’s the most important thing to consider?
Well the brightness of course, measured in Lumens, or in layman’s terms, the number of light particles hitting the viewing surface. The more Lumens, the better the image reproduction. Right?
Well..... correct if the number of Lumens claimed is real or ANSI Lumens, not “marketing department Lumens”. It’s amazing how an extra zero on the Lumens claim can influence the buyer, often an “error” by the marketing department. Or a claim that 20 Lumens looks just like 120 Lumens. It usually does – in pitch black conditions where there is no light dissipation. Think cinemas!

Mini Projector Creates Vision Testing System for Guide Dogs

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT

September 2013. Mini Projector’s Head Lumenary, Barry Shuttleworth was invited to show the Guide Dogs NSW/ACT team some mini projectors.

The purpose? To test the viability of mini projectors for peripheral vision testing for people whose vision has been impaired as a result of stroke, tumour or brain injury.

The existing system involved a bulky piece of equipment, leaving little choice for patients other than having to attend one of the Guide Dogs’ clinics, which is not always easy with some of the mobility issues that brain injuries leave.

Batteries, Power & Portability

 The Mini Projector Selector #5

Hi there, back again for episode number 5 where you get to choose just how portable you want your AV life to be.

All mini projectors need power to run them or charge their battery, unless you have one of the really early models with a candle and a reflector. Or maybe even 2 candles.

The higher the number of Lumens that the projector produces, the more power it draws. The more power it draws, the bigger the battery that is required. The bigger the battery, the less portable the projector becomes. This is why most mini data projectors over about 300 Lumens don’t have an internal rechargeable battery. It adds size and weight and reduces portability, which after all is one of the main reasons you want a mini projector, so you’re not carrying a couple of extra house bricks around in your kit.

A Smart Data Projector

on Wednesday, 10 September 2014. Posted in Blog

Gone are the days when a data projector weighed a couple of kilos and stayed fixed on a ceiling or rooted to a table. Today, most corporate and home entertainment systems rely on a portable data projector. A portable projector is easy to carry around and it removes the constraints of installation of a fixed screen for display or availability of a power supply or problems with viewing angle. The projection size can also vary and the range can go from 7" to 100". Thus, a portable projector can be used to deliver presentations to an audience in the boardroom or to watch movies on the big screen at home.
